Boricua
Boricua is more than a word.
It is identity. Heritage. Pride.
Puerto Ricans carry the blood and traditions of many peoples: Indigenous Taíno roots, African resilience, and Spanish influence woven together across generations. From this history emerged a culture unlike any other, shaped by survival, migration, resistance, music, family, and community.
The island itself was once called Borikén, the Taíno name for Puerto Rico, often translated as “Land of the Valiant Lord.” From that name came Boricua, a word carried proudly by Puerto Ricans across the island and throughout the diaspora.
To call yourself Boricua is to honor those who came before you.
It is a connection to the island, to the culture, and to a people who continue to rise no matter where life takes them.
BORICUA.
Not just where we’re from.
Who we are.
